The Council serves as an integral part of the Entrepreneurship Cross-Disciplinary Program at UNCG and represents all 8 areas of the program: Creative Industries Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship Education, Family Business Entrepreneurship, Franchising Entrepreneurship, Healthcare Entrepreneurship, International Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, and Science, Technology, and Innovation Entrepreneurship.

Faculty appointed to and serving on the ECDP Coordinating Council perform activities that may include but is not limited to:

  • assisting the Director by making recommendations in all matters related to cross-disciplinary entrepreneurship curricula and policy,
  • serving on ECDP committees or task forces,
  • regularly teaching entrepreneurship cross-disciplinary courses,
  • supervising students’ research or internships,
  • serving as active liaisons to relevant campus and community programs and entities,
  • actively advising and mentoring entrepreneurship majors and minors, and
  • engaging in outreach and public relations activities for entrepreneurship cross-disciplinary programs.

The ECDP Coordinating Council Faculty consists of all Coleman Entrepreneurship Faculty Fellows in addition to those teaching entrepreneurship across campus or involved in entrepreneurship projects.

Dianne H.B. Welsh is the Hayes Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship, Coleman Fellows Director, and Founding Director of the Entrepreneurship Programs at The University of North Carolina Greensboro. She is the 2015 Fulbright-Hall Distinguished Chair for Entrepreneurship for Central Europe. Her newest books are Creative Cross-Disciplinary Entrepreneurship, published by Palgrave-Macmillan, and the 2nd edition of Global Entrepreneurship and Case Studies in Global Entrepreneurship.

Dance     

Duane Cyrus is an Associate Professor of Dance in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance. In addition to teaching performance related courses in technique, choreography, and repertory he teaches ENT cross-listed courses to connect performing arts majors to useful entrepreneurship skills. DCE/ENT 455: Career Strategies for Artists is one of those courses. Mr. Cyrus is a North Carolina Arts Council Choreography Fellowship recipient and a Coleman Entrepreneurship Fellow.

Kinesiology

Donna M.Duffy is a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology at UNCG. In addition to her faculty responsibilities, Donna is the Program Director for the Program for the Advancement of Girls and Women in Sport and Physical Activity, which is housed in the Center for Women’s Health and Wellness at UNCG. Donna completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Kinesiology at UNCG in 2007. Prior to coming to UNCG, Donna completed her B.S. and M.Ed. at Boston University in Curriculum and Instruction.

Biology

David obtained his PhD in Public Health from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and currently teaches microbiology to UNCG biology majors.  He also supervises the team of lab managers who support the department’s laboratory-based coursework.  His interest in entrepreneurship is rooted in companies he co-founded that focus on applied microbiology research and development with SBIR phase I and II funds from the USDA and USEPA.

 

 

David Holley

 

Music

David Holley has been the Director of Opera at UNCG since 1992 and was appointed as the Artistic Director of Greensboro Opera in June, 2013.  Mr. Holley is also the founder and Artistic Director of Greensboro Light Opera and Song (GLOS), which completed a highly successful fourth season last June with performances of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Iolanthe and will embark on a collaboration this summer with Varna International, producing Lehar’s The Merry Widow in Greensboro and Bulgaria, along with a concert version of Les Misérables in Bulgaria.

Bill Johnson serves as the Student Success Navigator, Life Design Coach, and Instructor in the School of Health and Human Sciences; he also facilitates UNCG’s Design Your Life/Success Navigator Certification Train-the-Trainer program.  He teaches the ENT/HHS250: Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurship course, as well as the HHS125 and HHS135 Design Your Life courses and the HHS130: Meditation for Life course.

Sheryl Oring

 

Art

Sheryl Oring’s work examines critical social issues through projects that incorporate old and new media to tell stories, examine public opinion and foster open exchange. She has also presented work at Art in Odd Places in New York; the Art Prospect festival in St. Petersburg, Russia; and Encuentro in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Oring, who received her MFA from UC San Diego and who works as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is presently working on a public art commission at the San Diego airport.

Chemistry, Synthetix, Inc.

Cedric Pearce – Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Southampton in the UK, followed by 12 years in academia teaching chemistry and pharmacy, and then a decade working for large and small pharmaceutical and biotech companies. As one of the original Coleman Entrepreneurship fellows at UNCG, developed and taught Entrepreneurship for the Sciences (Chem 615) a total of three times.

Mr. Reynolds is a licensed CPA in NC. He has taught Family Business and Feasibility Analysis at UNCG.

Steve is the UNCG Business Librarian and winner of the PrivCo Prize for Excellence in Business Librarianship in 2015. He teaches ENT/GEO/LIS/MKT 530: Researching Opportunities in Entrepreneurship & Economic Development in the spring semester. This is an active-learning, hands-on class that meets in a computer classroom.

 

 

Christopher Thomas

 

Art

Christopher Thomas is an artist who makes paintings, drawings and artist books.  His work has been exhibited nationally at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Les Yeux du Monde Gallery in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and at Chicago’s A.R.C. Gallery.  Thomas received his MA and MFA from the University of Iowa and his BFA from Arcadia University.  Additionally, he studied at the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, Scotland.  He is a Fellow at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts in Rabun Gap, Georgia, having been an artist-in-residence there three times.

Dr. Janice Wassel is a social demographer whose focus in gerontology has directed her research to the longevity economy, silver industries (businesses), financial gerontology, and retirement issues of the older worker. She is especially interested in South Korea’s aging and entrepreneurship and in the developing products and services that encourage active lifestyles for older adults.

Public Health Education, Prevention Strategies, LLC

Presently an Associate Professor of Public Health Education, he has received more than a dozen NIH funded grants and was recently awarded funding from UNCG through the BELL initiative to develop a new graduate course in Public Health Education titled “Promoting and Protecting Health through Entrepreneurship.” Dr. Wyrick is also the founder and President of Prevention Strategies, LLC, an official affiliate of UNCG.

Keith Debbage is a Professor of Geography with research interests in urban economic development. He is the author of more than 60 research publications including a book, book chapters, contracted reports and various academic journals. Allison Bramwell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She teaches courses in urban politics, public policy and administration, and community economic development in both the undergraduate and MPA programs. Her current research focuses on collaborative urban governance and the political economy of restructuring with an emphasis on economic transformation in mid-sized cities. Other recent work includes local labour market planning and workforce development, the role of colleges and universities in regional economic development, and the social dynamics of economic performance in urban regions.

Arts Administration and Entrepreneurship 

Jennifer A. Reis is a creative entrepreneur, artist, educator and gallery director who has over twenty-five years of experience in arts business, administration, and higher education. Currently Assistant Professor of Arts Administration and Entrepreneurship at UNC-Greensboro, her research and practice focuses on empowering creative entrepreneurs with the mindsets and skills to survive and thrive. She is a trained Facilitator for the AIR Institute of Berea College, Etsy’s Craft Entrepreneurship Program, and a Master Facilitator for the Kauffman Foundation’s FastTrac Program, and consults for community development, trade and cultural organizations including the Kentucky Arts Council, Mountain Association for Community Economic Development, and the Association for Creative Industries. Her artistic practice in hand-stitched textiles has been honored with numerous awards, including Kentucky’s Al Smith Fellowship, national adjudicated and invitational exhibitions, and teaching opportunities at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, John C. Campbell Folk School, Craft Alliance Center of Art + Design, Society of Contemporary Craft, and the Southwest School of Art.

College of Visual and Performing Arts

Hannah Grannemann is an Assistant Professor of Arts Administration and the Director of the Arts Administration Program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In addition to her appointment in the CVPA, she is a Coleman Fellow in Entrepreneurship at UNCG’s Bryan School of Business and Economics.

Prior to joining UNCG in 2017, she was the Executive Director of the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, the Managing Director of PlayMakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill, NC, and held other positions in New York City in the nonprofit and commercial theater, casting, and in fundraising consulting. Hannah currently serves on the Board of the Society of Arts Entrepreneurship Educators and is on the editorial board of their journal, The Journal of Arts Entrepreneurship Education.

Hannah holds a BFA in Theatre from New York University/Tisch School of the Arts, an MFA in Theatre Management from the Yale School of Drama, and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. Hannah has presented at academic and professional arts conferences and continues to consult with arts organizations. She has published in the journal Cultural Management: Science and Education and wrote a 2017 blog series on the arts and economic mobility in Charlotte, NC.
